    So who am I? I am JAG. That is short for just a guy! I am just a guy trying to follow Jesus. Just a guy with a pretty cool family. Just a guy lucky enough to serve at a pretty cool church! I love Jesus. He is my greatest love and passion. Without him and his sacrifice on the cross. I am nothing, I have nothing, and I would amount to nothing. In Matthew 16:24, Jesus said that anyone with aspirations of knowing Him must take up a cross and follow Him. That is my joy. It is a privilege to serve God. Till death do we part, in sickness and in health - all of that - He is my Lord. He has taken me on some amazing adventures already. I can't wait to see what is next. 


    I love my family. Emily is the real hero in our story. She is my wife of 12 years. I know - shocker! Someone has had the patience to put up with me that long. Wow! Emily is the assistant director of the forensics program at GMU. So now you know who has the brains in this marriage. She was runner up Ms. Illinois in her 20's and she looks just as great now. So you figured out who the good looking one is too! And she serves God with an undying passion. Now you know who is the spiritual one as well. 


    We have 6 kids. Dryden and Soleil are the home-made kids.  We adopted 4 kids from China, Lily, Mackenzie and Thaddaeus and Luna. Spoiler alert because you may meet us at some point. Lily had a heart transplant 6 years ago. She's doing amazing. God has done some jaw-dropping things in our lives. Between Thaddeus and Luna, we adopted Salsa (Annabella) from NYC.  


    I love to serve the church. I did my undergrad work at Kentucky Christian University and my graduate work at Lincoln Christian Seminary. I have been learning who God is since I first decided to follow Jesus when I was 12-years-old.


    A few other things about me! I am Canadian! I love to lift weights, play golf, basketball, hockey, volleyball, tennis - pretty much any sport! I also thought you should know my fanhood ahead of time. I am a diehard New England Patriots fan (I know, we have suffered through some lean years lately!!!). I also love the Montreal Canadiens, San Antonio Spurs, Washington Nationals, and I have not yet given up hope of a Tiger Woods return to prominence! I hope to meet you when you check out our church! Peace and Good will eh!

    Hey everyone! I’m Stephen, and I serve on the pastoral team at Gateway. I started at Gateway in 2009, shortly after completing my Bachelors degree in Religion at Liberty University. While I was at Liberty I met a beautiful girl from Northern Virginia named Rhianna. We served together at Gateway while we dated, and in December 2014 we got married! Rhianna works with the Illuminate Kids Ministry and runs a small business with her mom in Fairfax. Serving together and dreaming big for the kingdom of God has really strengthened and grown our relationship! 


    Our daughter Isla Faye is 5 years old and started Kindergarten! She has brought so much joy to our lives and has shown me in greater depth, the type of love that the Father has for me, as HIS child.  We love this little girl and pray that she will choose to follow Jesus someday!


    I was ordained at GBC in February 2012 and I’m involved in a lot of different things at GBC, but the things that get me wicked excited are working with a group of talented worshipers on the worship team, and watching as people surrender their hearts during our morning worship services. I also get to flex my creative muscles through the development of our visual communications. Basically, everything from series graphics to signage to our website and printed materials! I love being creative for the glory of God!


    I haven’t always called Northern Virginia home. In fact, I was born and raised in Maine. No, I didn’t live in an igloo, and yes Maine is part of the U.S., not Canada (These are questions I have actually had to answer during my time working with teens!) I am a Boston Red Sox fan and I married a Yankees fan, so just imagine what our house is like during baseball season!


    When I’m not "doing ministry" you'll find me enjoying time with my family, playing guitar, creating art on Photoshop or laughing with friends. My favorite movies usually involve a zombie apocalypse, superheroes, or elves and dwarves. It's very rare that you will catch me watching a romantic comedy, but I don’t get to pick every time. I am a huge music buff, with a collection of guitars, and stringed instruments. I could talk about music all day, but to give you an idea, my favorite artists are Relient K, Switchfoot, Owl City, Elevation Worship, Hillsong United, Paul Baloche, Coldplay, and Mumford and Sons. I love to read books by J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Francis Chan, Frank Peretti, Robert J. Sawyer, Erwin McManus (just to name a few). 


    So that’s a little about me. I can’t wait to meet YOU this Sunday!
