As you may have already heard, Prince William County Schools informed us today of the decision to temporarily suspend community usage of public schools. The situation will be re-assessed next week as the county monitors closely the spread and threat of the coronavirus.
In preparation for what we knew might happen, our leadership has discussed a few options moving forward, and we will continue to meet and pray about those options as the situation evolves pending the possibility of not having to Gainesville Middle School for an extended period of time.
The good news is – Gateway Bible Church is only one expression of Christ’s Church in this area. We have benefitted in many ways from the ministry and church partnerships grown through His Church United, a ministry organization started to build unity for the sake of the gospel right here in Northern Virginia. Several pastors have extended the invitation for us to worship with them in the event of a situation just like this one.
For this Sunday, we want to encourage you to visit and worship with another local body. Grace Life Community Church is one of those congregations who have graciously extended to us that offer. I know many of you have friends and family members that worship at other area churches. This would be a perfect opportunity for you to enjoy that fellowship!
A few things moving forward. First of all, I want to ask you to pray. Pray for our country and the world as we navigate this new normal. Pray for key leaders making decisions that impact people in a lot of ways. Pray for the sick and the families of those who have lost loved ones. And pray for the hope of Jesus to be the voice that is heard when the world is thrown into chaos and fear. Pray for Christians to share their faith boldly during these uncertain days.
And be encouraged. 1st Peter 5:7 reminds us: “Cast all your anxieties upon him for he cares for you”. Our Lord himself commanded us: “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough troubles of its own” (Matthew 6:34). And John offered incredible perspective reminding us not to be afraid because “Perfect love casts out fear” (1st John 4:8).
You see, Christ-followers don’t panic or tremble like the rest of the world in the face of uncertainty or danger. We pray. We trust. We stand on the solid rock – the one and only foundation that cannot be shaken!
All other Gateway Bible Church events will continue as scheduled. That includes garage time, home groups, as well as Student LARGEGROUP Meetings at the Greenhill Crossing Clubhouse and student smallGROUPS. We will diligently ensure that the facility used for student events is sanitized and sterilized prior to the arrival of the students Sunday night.
I also want to encourage you to give online. You can visit www.gbcnova.com/online-giving or the Church Center App, to do that. Even though we are not meeting this week, we still have regular expenses. I also anticipate as the pandemic continues that God may challenge his people to step up and meet community needs as they arise. It would be an honor for Gateway Bible Church to be able to resource those needs. So please prayerfully consider how you might give!
If you have any questions or concerns please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or another member of our leadership team. We will be in constant communication with you through email, our church website and social media as things change or new information becomes available.
Peace and Goodwill eh!
on behalf of the Elder Team
